Beaulieu Breaks Through With First GSPSS Victory At Speedway 95
By Jeff Brown, for Granite State Pro Stock Series
HERMON, ME. - Last year at Speedway 95, Evan Beaulieu came as close as ever to taking his first Granite State Pro Stock Series win.
Saturday night, Beaulieu sealed the deal with an emotional victory in a 125-lap GSPSS showdown.
The Durham, Me. driver became the first first-time GSPSS winner since last summer and the third first-time winner in five races at the Hermon, Me. third-mile since 2023.
Beaulieu was quick on the speed charts all day, but his evening was almost over before it began, as he dodged calamity in a first-lap crash that eliminated long-hauler Cory Casagrande. Beaulieu returned to the track in 8th with polesitter Casey Call and 2023 winner Josh St. Clair at the front of the field.
Over the next forty laps, Beaulieu picked his way through traffic, finding his way to second. He took the lead from St. Clair on lap 42 and never looked back.
Late-race restarts gave St. Clair a shot at repeating his 2023 triumph, but the Wiscasset Speedway veteran could not unseat Beaulieu, who went on to win by .615 seconds.
Adding to the emotion of the first-time victory, Beaulieu's win came in his first race since his mother Lesha's untimely passing in May. In memory of his mother, Beaulieu tinted his roof number yellow, her favorite color.
Cole Robie matched his career best GSPSS performance with a third-place finish. Defending champion Casey Call was fourth, with coastal Maine ace Ryan Deane in fifth. Claremont Motorsports Park winner Wayne Helliwell, Jr. was among those who made an early exit, finishing ninth.
Beaulieu joins St. Clair and last year’s winner Mike Hopkins as first-time winners at Speedway 95, continuing a streak of Maine-born winners in every GSPSS event held in the Pine Tree State since 2017.
The next race on the GSPSS calendar is Sunday, June 29 at Hudson Speedway in Hudson, N.H. Details of this year’s Gate City Classic will be released later this week.
