EL PASO, Texas (June 13, 2016) Pulling double duty in Amarillo on Saturday night at the Route 66 Motor Speedway, John Carney II walked away with his eight victory of the season in the John James Racing No. 4j.

Taking on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour in the Steward Builders No. 224, Carney walked made out with a ninth place finish despite the car being a tick on the tight side.

“I made the redraw and of course, there’s a one and an eight so I drew the eight. We tightened the car way up for the feature. I’ve run there probably 30 times in the past two to three years and it’s usually slick. I mean really slick and I figured with that many cars, plus the wind, it was going to be near rubber, but I drove it down into one and two, and it was tight, but I rolled it. Down in three and four, I don’t think I got bumped, and there wasn’t a hole, but it just went up and off the track and I ended up 14th as the caution came out. After that, I just had to pick my way though there.”

Coming back to finish ninth, Carney switched to the No. 4j for the 305cid A-Feature where the track was what he had expected it to be.

“We rolled out with our normal thing for the 305’s and just picked them off one at a time. Most of those guys were running the bottom, but the top in one and two, it could have slicked off completely and you still could have run it wide open. We had a late caution that grouped us back together. The way it was rolling, I think I could have gotten the lead anyway, and on the restart he missed his line and I was able to slip by.”

Back in the John James Racing No. 4j for the remainder of the ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek with a fresh Al Parker built bullet under the bonnet, Carney will be in action again on Tuesday, June 14 at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.

Carney will pull double duty again on Saturday, June 18 at Lucas Oil Speedway in John James' No. 4j and David Korte's non-wing car with the WAR Sprint Series.
