Davenport Wires Field for Rumble by the River $50K Payday, Ziegler Wins Modified $10K Check

Port Royal, PA - Jonathan Davenport would lead all 50 laps in the A-main of the Rumble by The River presented by the University of Northwestern Ohio with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on Saturday night to claim the $50,000 prize.

Davenport and Devin Moran would make up the front row of the feature event with the driver of the #49 machine getting out to the lead early and setting the pace.

Ricky Thornton Jr., who started in the 5th running position, would fight his way up to the runner up spot after making contact with Hudson O'Neal coming off of turn 4 with 33 laps remaining.

O'Neal would try to continue in the A-main but would ultimately cut his left-front tire and have to head to the pit area.

Thornton would put pressure on Davenport throughout the remainder of the A-main, but would hop up over the cushion in turns 1 and 2 with 5 laps remaining, and would do so again in turns 3 and 4 that would give his machine enough damage to lose his momentum on the leader.

Davenport would go on to win over Thornton by a 4.234 second margin. Max Blair, who started 7th, would round out the top 3.

In the Mid-Atlantic Modified A-main event, Mason Ziegler would claim the $10,000 paycheck.

Ziegler would battle with Evan Taylor over the opening 3 laps with the 2 cars running side-by-side all across the race track. Once Ziegler got a firm grip on the lead with 22 laps remaining, he didn't look back.

Kyle Strickler would get to the 2nd spot after starting in 4th and Drake Troutman would round out the podium after starting in 3rd.

Port Royal Speedway will be back in action on Saturday August 31st for the 170th Juniata County Fair Opener headlined by the 21st Annual Butch Renninger Memorial which features the Selinsgrove Ford Super Late Models racing for $7,333 to win, the Weikert Livestock 410 Sprint Cars racing for $5,000 to win, and the Zimmerman Truck Repair Limited Late Models racing for $3,333 to win.
