Iron-Man Late Model Series

Christian Hanger Claims Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series Road to ‘Dega 40 at North Alabama Speedway

TUSCUMBIA, ALABAMA (August 11, 2023)– The Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series would make its first ever visit to North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL for the Road to ‘Dega 40 and Christian Hanger of Winchester, TN would lead thirty-nine of the scheduled forty laps to claim the victory and pick up the $5,000 payday.

The win for the 25-year-old Hanger would be his first career Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series victory and would come behind the wheel of a Longhorn Chassis powered by a Pro Power Race Engine with sponsorship from Brickworks, Greg Guinn Construction, Hanger’s Hardwood Flooring, Ballard’s Excavation, Mickey Stephens Septic Service, Joe Joe Dobson Skid-Steer Service, Wells Motorsports, Alexander Produce, SFP Performance Systems, and Simple Moments Photography.

The opening lap of the Road to ‘Dega 40 main event would see Rick Rickman spin in turn three and draw the only caution of the event. The official start would see Christian Hanger grab the race lead, followed by Josh Henry, Parker Martin, Josh Putnam, and Oakley Johns. Johns would take fourth on lap three and would ride to third past Martin on lap four. While Hanger would open his lead, Johns continued to roll the highside of the track and would take second from Henry on lap six. With the top three settled in at this point, Putnam would pressure Martin for fourth and would take the spot on lap nine, while Hanger would begin working lapped traffic on lap eleven. Johns would reel in race leader Hanger and the pair would begin to battle in traffic, with Johns taking the lead on lap fifteen, however, Hanger would reclaim the top spot one circuit later. Hanger would work traffic better at this point as the race reached the halfway point, while Putnam would begin to catch Henry for third. Putnam would battle with Johns and take the runner-up slot on lap twenty-five, as Hanger had extended his lead to over five seconds as the race reached the lap thirty make. Hanger would continue to work his way in and out and lapped traffic, while Putnam would chase down Johns and take the second position on lap thirty-seven. Hanger would see the checkered flag first, with Putnam and Johns completing the podium finishers, while Henry and Martin completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Dillon Tidmore, Billy Moyer, Sr., Booger Brooks, Brian Rickman, and Will Roland.

The next event for the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Southern Series will be Saturday August 12 at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL for the 6th Annual Governor’s Cup paying $10,000 to win and $500 to start.
